Dear [Supervisor’s name],
I would like to attend the Second Annual National Association of the Deaf (NAD) Leadership Training Conference (NLTC ’09) that will take place October 29-November 1, 2009 in Columbus, Ohio.
I believe that attending this conference will benefit me both personally and professionally, and that [Company name] will also benefit because what I will learn will enable me to become a more productive worker and a more valuable asset to [Company name].
NLTC ’09 is specifically tailored for deaf individuals who wish to enhance leadership skills for the workplace or for community involvement. Training breakout and plenary sessions will be conducted entirely in American Sign Language and thus will be directly accessible and useful to me as well as [Company name].
The conference program is geared to individuals seeking to improve their skills for workplace advancement and community engagement/civic involvement. Plenary presentations and breakout session topics will include promoting diversity and sharing of diverse viewpoints, being a change agent, staying on top of leadership trends, mentoring up and coming leaders, effective communication, serving on boards and exercising fiduciary responsibility, and capturing the power of blogs and social media.
It is not often that an opportunity comes along for me to go to a conference like this, so I hope that you will approve my attendance. NLTC ’09 provides enormous value for the money because the registration fee is only $150 for NAD members and $190 for non-members and includes two receptions and two luncheons. Additional costs will be round trip airfare of $[cost of airfare], hotel guest room expenses of $ (based on $82/night-single or $107/night-double, plus 16.75% tax), ground transportation to/from both my home airport and the Columbus, Ohio airport, and meals that are not covered by registration.
For the benefits that I expect to derive from this conference, I believe those costs are minimal, and I hope you will support my attendance.
