Discover. Build. Lead.
At the heart of our youth efforts are two flagship programs, Junior NAD (Jr. NAD) and the Youth Leadership Camp (YLC), supported by a range of national initiatives that together develop tomorrow’s leaders. Beyond fostering scholarship, leadership, and citizenship, these opportunities provide pathways for young people to discover their strengths, build confidence, and expand their influence.
Through school-based chapters, immersive summer experiences, and national stages like the College Bowl, the new wave of leaders learn to take initiative, collaborate with peers, and advocate for change. Each setting is unique — whether in classrooms, at camp, or on a national platform — and together they form a powerful pipeline that develops leaders who carry their skills and values into every stage of life.
Junior NAD Chapter Network
Our Junior NAD flagship program, established in 1961, empowers middle and high school students through a network of school-based chapters. Students in these chapters learn to engage in committees, lead meetings, run for office, plan events, serve their communities, and practice advocacy.
Chapters connect with one another nationwide, building networks and laying the foundation for future leadership. Every two years, Jr. NAD members gather at national conferences to share ideas, learn from each other, and highlight their leadership on a larger stage.
Youth Leadership Camp
The Youth Leadership Camp has been a cornerstone of NAD Youth Programs since 1969. This four-week summer camp brings together high school sophomores and juniors for an immersive experience focused on leadership, teamwork, and personal growth.
Campers “Builders” take part in workshops, outdoor activities, media projects, presentations, and community living — all in an ASL-rich environment that encourages independence and confidence. Many alumni describe YLC as a turning point in their lives, where they built lasting friendships and discovered their capacity to lead.
National Youth Initiatives
In addition to the two flagship programs — Junior NAD and the Youth Leadership Camp (YLC) — young leaders take part in initiatives at the national level that give them a broader stage to connect, compete, and showcase their leadership. Many of these opportunities happen at Biennial NAD Conferences, while others take place year-round as special projects that pop up online or in communities.
At Biennial NAD Conferences
- Junior NAD Pages — representatives from chapters nationwide come together every two years to exchange ideas, collaborate, and highlight their leadership.
- NAD College Bowl (CoBo) — a lively academic competition where college students demonstrate teamwork, knowledge, and quick thinking.
- Youth Sessions & Gatherings — workshops and networking opportunities designed for students to learn, connect, and engage on national issues.
Beyond Biennial NAD Conferences
Special Projects — pop-up opportunities, sometimes online, that give students a chance to collaborate, build skills, and connect. These are announced as they arise and shared directly on this page.
