U.S. Department of Education Update – March 2026

Hi, my name is Marla Hatrak. I am currently NAD’s Educational Policy consultant.

This video is an update on previous videos where we talked about
certain programs within the Department of Education being moved to different departments like Department of Labor and Department of Human and Health Services.

The reason was because the Department of Education is determined to reduce and close the department fully. That has always been their intent.

Today’s update: more programs have been assigned to other departments. As for Special Education, it still has not been determined. They are not saying anything and remain murky.

It is interesting to note that Department of Education Secretary Linda McMahon did warn the disability activists and supporters that Special Education will be assigned somewhere.
Definitely will…not a matter of if or possibility or they are considering. It’s not the case “If” it will be moved but where? That’s the question.

That’s the update on Special Education.

The Department of Education will definitely be closed. It is a matter of when it will be in the coming months.
Incidentally, in a previous video, our NAD President, SJ Hakulin, cautioned on how state associations need to be concerned, within their states, regarding deaf education and special education. She is right.

That is the reason why NAD developed a Blueprint for Excellence in Deaf Education.

More about that later.

Just know that BEDE will be discussed more in depth at the NAD Conference in San Francisco this summer.

See you there? Come on!
