Future is Deaf Youth: Mentoring and Organizational Involvement

Abstract:
This one-hour and 30 minutes presentation by two Deaf Youth Adults will focus on the importance of mentoring and creating an inclusive organization to attract Deaf Youth leaders. The participants will learn 1) Importance of mentoring for Deaf Youth, 2) Past and current mentoring efforts including MoiSigne ASL, 3) Current challenges of Deaf Youth involvement with Deaf Associations/Affiliates, and 4) Steps to take to recruit/retain Deaf Youth membership.

Domonic Gordine (He/His/Him) is a Deaf Philadelphia native working to make a difference in the lives of Deaf children. After winning the NAD Youth Ambassador Program, Domonic made appearances at NBDA, PSAD, and other conferences to promote his mentorship platform. Domonic is working as an employment specialist for Easterseals New Jersey.

DT Bruno
DT Bruno (He/His/Him) is the inaugural President/Chair of the NAD Youth Section. Since 2018, DT has consulted with state associations regarding youth engagement, obtained Youth Ordinary Membership (YOM) for NADYS, and coordinated four delegates to WFDYS Youth Camp 2019 in France. After the MSW program, DT moved to New Hampshire to work as a Therapist and Community Health Worker for Greater Nashua Mental Health.
DT Bruno
