As a federation, the NAD is made up of a diverse network of members who form the foundation of our structure, leadership, and collective voice. At the heart of this federation are state association affiliates and organizational affiliates—nonprofit, for-profit, and government entities that align with our mission. Many of these organizations are also member-driven, and they represent communities at the national, state, and local levels.
These core affiliates uphold and strengthen the NAD’s strategic goals. Through their participation in the Council of Representatives, they help ensure that NAD’s direction remains grounded in the needs and priorities of the community.
They are joined by college student affiliates, Junior NAD chapters, sections, and individual members, all of whom contribute to the NAD’s reach and impact. Each category of membership brings unique perspectives, advocacy priorities, and lived experience, contributing to a structure that is both broad and deeply rooted in community leadership.
This structure ensures that national efforts are grounded in local realities and guided by the people we serve. It reflects our commitment to shared leadership and the principle of Nothing About Us, Without Us.
