Nothing About Us, Without Us
At the NAD, Nothing About Us, Without Us means that Deaf and hard of hearing people must shape the decisions, policies, and systems that affect our lives. This principle is about more than inclusion — it is about leadership. We are not here to be consulted after the fact. We are here to lead from the start.
We believe that:
- Deaf and hard of hearing people have the right to be fully involved in shaping programs, services, laws, and priorities that impact our community.
- Decisions about our lives must be made with us and by us — not for us.
- Our lived experiences, language, and culture are not optional perspectives — they are essential expertise.
When we are involved and respected, decisions are more effective, more accurate, and more reflective of who we are. This is not just a belief — it is how the NAD works. It is the standard we set, the principle we defend, and the future we build.
